These photos were taken in the Revillagigedos islands, which are accessible only via 24-hour boat ride (each way) SW from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. These volcanic islands, of which Socorro is the largest, are famous for their plankton eating giant manta rays, some of the most graceful and gentle creatures in the sea. In addition to stunningly rugged topography, these remote islands are home to huge schools of jacks, dolphins, migrating whales (none of which I was able to photograph underwater unfortunately), and sharks (shown below are silver-tip, white-tip, and scalloped hammerhead).
